Is there a “Sherlock” in the house….?

I have run across a mystery….. so I’m hoping by putting it out there “into the world” that someone may chime in if they have this person in their family.

Continuing from my previous blog subject, we are still talking about Nicholas Power(s) and his wife Bridgit (Brigit), originally from Waterford City, Ireland. We are now stateside, in good ole’ Cleveland, OH, USA. It is June, 1900. (the 7th to be exact). 😀 That good person, the enumerator I believe they are called, who takes the census around and documents everyone. Yep, that person. Everyone matches in the household, except one person. Josephine. Who the heck is Josephine and what is she doing in Nicholas’ home. She is listed as a daughter, but if you check out the year she was born, and the age they have her listed at, the math is not adding up.

Someone cannot be 27 years old, born in 1862 and it be the year 1900. That would make her either 38 or her birth year should be 1873.

There are already 8 confirmed children – Josephine would have made 9 and Bridgit answered that she only had 8. I’m wondering whether Josephine is a niece from one of Nicholas’ siblings and something happened to them. I have not looked at any of them to know whether this is true but that is the first logical option. After researching the name Josephine in other census records in other years, ironically, there is someone by the name Josephine who is listed as a “servant” in several households, but the age doesn’t match up with this one.

Does anyone have a Josephine Power(s), born in Massachusetts, whose parents are Irish that matches this one listed with my ancestors?
